Open a new coffee shop to the local food scene isn’t easy. It’s even more difficult if its menu is unfamiliar to the market—and in the midst of a pandemic! But Loraine Consunji and her friends from Brewers-Haven made it possible with creativity, an understanding of the Filipino market, and business know-how.
Fueling a nation of foodies
The idea of opening Brewers-Haven started because of the founders’ shared love of coffee, food, and travel. They went the extra mile and turned Brewers-Haven into an experience that both coffee lovers and non-coffee lovers would enjoy!
Lorraine shares:
“We love to experience food and coffee when we travel, and Brewers-Haven is the perfect venue for both of those passions.”
She added that Brewers-Haven is welcoming to all kinds of consumers: “Whether you’re a no-nonsense espresso guy, a single origin pour-over lover, or even a sweet latte kind of person, we have all those here.”
Even if you’re not a coffee person, they have an impressive selection of hot teas and even iced teas to satisfy your thirst for some great beverages. Their menu doesn’t end there because they’ve curated fusion cuisines that perfectly fit the Filipino market while keeping the classics that are popular overseas.
All-day signature dish
If you’re a frequent coffee shop patron, you won’t be surprised at how limited their menu is when it comes to food. At most, you’ll get pastries like a croissant or maybe some pasta to satisfy your hunger. But since Brewers-Haven wanted to be more than just a coffee stop, they curated a menu for foodies to enjoy, featuring Filipino flavors with some Asian fusion. The Norri Nachos and Hummus are two of their most famous dishes.
“The flavors of the seaweed, the hummus, and the lucban longganisa create an umami flavor as you’re eating it. It’s not just pretty to look at, it’s not just instagrammable, but every bite is a guaranteed party in your mouth.”
The Norri Nachos isn’t a Filipino dish, but they added local flavors by pairing them with lucban longganisa. It became an instant hit in the local market and contributed to the success of Brewers-Haven.
Lorraine also shares that the experience of eating these crowd favorites is exactly what she wants Brewers-Haven customers to experience. They are top sellers for a good reason: they’re not just satisfying to eat but also a unique “sensory” experience you won’t get in any other coffee shops.
And during a time when overseas travel was still impossible, Brewers-Haven brought international food experiences and flavors to their customers to make the pandemic a little easier to bear.
Following through with their passion
The pandemic and the lockdowns that came with it spared no business, and that includes Brewers-Haven. Lorraine and her partners initially aimed for a 2020 opening, but due to the pandemic, it got pushed back until late 2021. Construction of their branch saw countless delays, and when the construction started, it was slower than expected due to the social distancing restrictions. But with patience, determination, and passion to break new ground in the local food scene, Brewers-Haven was eventually opened in December 2021.
Business savvy meets tech-savvy
Loraine Consunji is not just a businesswoman but also a working mother. Juggling business and personal lives couldn’t get any easier for working women like her. While she’s not unfamiliar with running a business, this is her first time venturing into the world of food and beverage, thus making this feat all the more challenging.
Despite the challenges that came their way at the beginning, Loraine and her partners pulled it off and put Brewers-Haven Legaspi on every local foodie’s radar. Even at the height of the pandemic. And with the help of modern-day business solutions such as a cloud-based POS like StoreHub, running an F&B business for the first time was easier, and she can do it remotely too!
“The StoreHub platform was very easy to use, and also it’s a good system to manage the business even from afar. Even if I don’t come here often, I’m able to help the staff like manning Beep, helping them troubleshoot little things, and monitoring sales.”
StoreHub has been instrumental in helping her run Brewers-Haven in the New Normal business landscape. For a businesswoman and a working mother like her, it’s important to have the flexibility to oversee a business anytime and anywhere.
